“The Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited has registered a new record in 40 years. Earlier, it had been in the hands of corrupt individuals like Madal Virupakshappa and Prashanth Virupakshappa,” Siddaramaiah said.

The CM was referring to former BJP MLA from Channagiri and KSDL chairman Madal Virupakshappa’s son Prashanth being apprehended by Lokayukta police in March while he was accepting a bribe of Rs40 lakh.

It is being speculated that did so on behalf of his father allegedly in return for a contract to provide raw materials to the stateowned company, which is famous for manufacturing the famous Mysore Sandal soap.

Since then, upwards of Rs 8 crore has been seized from Prashant by Lokayukta and he has been arrested alongside four others. Madal Virupakshappa then quit as the KSDL chairman.
