Bengaluru: Residents of V Kallahalli in Anekal Taluk found an elderly woman trying to sleep near a temple while battling the shivering cold night in the outskirts of the city.
Speaking to News Trail, one of the residents who does not wish to be named, said the woman seemed to be in her 70s and was later found to be suffering from several age-related health issues.
The incident is said to have taken place on Friday night. Taking pity on her condition, a few residents approached her offering food and help.
However, they were shocked when the woman told them that her daughter and son-in-law had abandoned her near the temple in the dead of the night.
The residents found that her name was Obavva, and that she was a resident of Dommasandra.
They took her to AiR Humanitarian Home, a home for destitutes where the woman is currently under treatment, in Bannerghatta.
It is alleged that the doctors have found several injury marks on the woman's hands and legs. The resident added that Obavva was residing with her daughter, Asha Rani's family in Dommasandra.
It was alleged that Asha Rani and her husband, Manjunath, were not willing to take care of the ailing woman and decided to abandon her.
On Friday night, the couple allegedly took Obavva in their car and left her near the temple before driving away, the resident said.
Based on the woman's statements, a few residents have filed a complaint with the Anekal police against the woman's daughter and son in-law.
