Improve voter turnout in Mysuru urban pockets: Additional CEC

NT Correspondent

Mysuru: Additional chief election commissioner M Kurma Rao on Monday directed the district administration to initiate all measures to increase voter turnout in the upcoming parliamentary polls.

He was speaking after presiding over the SVEEP (Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation) committee meeting held in the city.

He said that urban assembly segments of Mysuru district like Krishnaraja, Narasimharaja and Chamaraja recorded poor voter turnout when compared to its rural assembly segments in the recently held assembly elections.

Officials must soon identify the polling booths with poor voter turnout and initiate all measures to sensitize voters about the importance of voting, he said.

He wanted to ensure a steady increase in voting in every poll to make electoral democracy more inclusive.

As migration was identified as one of the main reasons for poor turnout in such segments, he asked the officials to educate such voters.
