Seven BMTC officials suspended over bribery charges

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) suspended at least seven officials over allegations of corruption.

The officials were accused of demanding and obtaining bribes from the BMTC employees in order to sanction their leaves.

According to sources, a probe was launched by the department following which the investigating team recovered more than Rs 20 lakhs from the bank accounts belonging to the suspects.

A complaint had been filed by an official a few days back to the then Managing Director Satyavati regarding this practice.

The allegations were reportedly proven during an investigation that was ordered by Satyavati before her transfer. The sources said that the suspended officials served in Depot No.27.

The suspended officials include Official Supervisor Manjula R, Junior Assistants Pritham, Manoj Kumar LS, Suma A and Shashwath, Assistant Accountant Dhananjay V and Assistant Kushala Karmi Devaraj G.

So far it is being suspected that the accused were allegedly procuring bribes in order to allocate the desired route and shift to the employees.
