Bengaluru: The ambitious highspeed rail (HSR) project spanning 435 kilometres, connecting Chennai, the automobile manufacturing hub, Bengaluru, the tech and start-up hub, and Mysuru, the cultural capital of Karnataka, is set to transform the Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru region.
This high-density corridor houses numerous companies, tech parks, manufacturing units, and townships along its stretches.
The primary aim of the HSR project is to reduce travel time between Mysuru and the two Southern state capitals.
The proposed alignment for the Chennai-BengaluruMysuru HSR encompasses nine stations: Chennai, Poonamallee, Arakkonam (Tamil Nadu), Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh), Bangarapet (Karnataka), Bengaluru, Channapatna, Mandya, and Mysuru.
Contracts have already been awarded by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) for the preparation of General Alignment Drawings, surveying, identification of overhead, overground, and underground utilities, as well as identification of power sourcing options for substations.
The planned HSR alignment follows the Bengaluru-Chennai expressway route between Hoskote near Bengaluru, Karnataka, and Sriperumbudur near Chennai.
Additionally, it is anticipated to be in proximity to the second airport in Chennai at Parandur, merely 3 km away from the new Bengaluru-Chennai expressway.
