Nikhil consults party workers in key LS seats

Bengaluru: JD(S) state youth wing president Nikhil Kumaraswamy held a meeting with party workers from the Chikkaballapura Lok Sabha constituency.

The discussion took place at the party office in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Earlier, he had held similar discussions with workers from Mandya and Kolar districts. Nikhil’s active involvement comes as a surprise since JD(S) state president HD Kumaraswamy had declared that his son would take a break from politics and focus on his acting career.

The statement had come in the backdrop of the JD(S)’ debacle in May’s Assembly elections in which they had slipped to only 19 seats.

Nikhil had lost from Ramanagara, a party stronghold, to Congressman NA Iqbal Hussain in May. He had also lost to BJP-backed Sumalatha Ambareesh in the 2019 general elections from Mandya, another stronghold.

However, he has been assigned electoral duties this time around. JD(S) is likely to get three seats in a seat-sharing agreement with the BJP for the Lok Sabha election slated for later this year.

The regional party has reportedly been offered Hassan, Mandya and either Bengaluru Rural, Kolar or Tumakuru.
