Bengaluru: In a heart-wrenching incident in the city, an innocent newborn baby was callously thrown into the narrow gap between two buildings, leaving the community in dismay.
According to the Tilak Nagar police, the baby was found by a few locals in RBI Layout following which a case has been filed.
Speaking to News Trail, the police said that a few residents on Wednesday night reported hearing distressing cries resembling that of a small child emanating from the junction of two buildings.
However, a subsequent search yielded no results. It wasn’t until Thursday morning that locals discovered the newborn.
The locals rescued the infant and rushed it to Indira Gandhi Hospital for medical treatment. The examination reportedly revealed the baby had suffered bites to the head and other parts of its body, supposedly inflicted by rats.
Despite efforts, the newborn succumbed to its condition on Friday. The police investigation is focused on determining the motives behind this barbaric act.
The police have taken action by registering an FIR under section 317 of the IPC. Preliminary inquiries are exploring the possibility of an illicit relationship leading to the abandonment of the newborn or deliberate intent to discard the child.
A social activist and a Member of Parliament & Former Chairperson for Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal took to social media platform X and posted a letter that she wrote to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking an FIR to be registered in the matter and stringent action against the accused.
