Bengaluru: Valuables worth at least Rs 30 lakh were estimated to have gutted in the fire that broke out at a two-storeyed building in Balapet area of the city. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

While the incident took place around 11:30 pm on Friday, operations including dousing of the fire and inspecting the spot went on until the wee hours of Saturday.

According to sources, the fire engulfed the entire building which housed a paint shop on the ground floor and a bag store on the first floor.

Upon alert, Upparpet police along with three fire tenders rushed to the spot and began dousing the blaze. It was revealed that the paint shop belonged to one Krishnamurthy who reached the spot with his relatives as soon as he received the information of the fire break-out.

Krishnamurthy said that he had been running the paint shop for the last 30 years and it is for the first time such an incident occurred in the building.

The firefighters broke open the shutters with the help of an excavator and battled the blaze for around four hours to douse it.

It is suspected that a short circuit within the wiring system of the store led to the fire. A case has been registered at the Upparpet police station.
