May increase sportspersons' police quota, says Siddu

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that he would consider increasing the quota for sportspersons in the state police from the current two per cent.

He made the comments at the closing ceremony of the 12th All India Police Archery Championship on Sunday.

The competition was organised by the state police and the State government contributed Rs 25 Lakhs for the same.

The tournament was organised from January 30 to February 4 under the aegis of All India Police Sports Control Board in which state Police and Central Para Military Police Forces also participated.

“With a view to encourage more sportspersons to join the police, the government has created a 2 per cent reservation in recruitment and in the future, the government is thinking of increasing the percentage,” Siddaramaiah said.

“In the year 2022-23, 80 Civil Constables and 20 PSIs (Police Sub-Inspector) have been appointed under sports quota,” he added.

As many as 24 teams from state Police forces and Central Police Organizations participated.
