'Recent lay-offs not a symptom of slow economy'

Bengaluru: The recent lay-offs in prominent companies are a part of an economic cycle which will eventually result in growth, said Senapathy 'Kris' Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys.

His comments assume significance in the back drop of many companies announcing a reduction in headcount last month.

Responding to a question by News Trail on last year’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act.

Gopalakrishnan said, “The non-personal data belongs to the country, and the Act prescribed it be available on public domain. However the Act says that the individual’s data will remain with them,” he said.

He also hoped that the implementation of the same would be done smoothly.

“The report released by research organisation itihaasa also advocates for an independent protection authority and anonymisation of data. Last October, Infosys, along with other IT service firms, announced that their employees will report to the office five days a week, basically putting Work From Home (WFH) to an end. Gopalakrishnan, reiterated that WFH can help in unforeseen circumstances.

“The benefit of working in offices is however unparalleled," he added.
