Bengaluru: A 28-year-old woman was brutally attacked with a sharp weapon by her husband in full public view in Jeevan Bhima Nagar Police Station limits.
The incident took place around 6:45 pm on Monday when the victim was returning to her PG accomodation near Murugeshpalya in Bengaluru.
Her husband, who was waiting for her to arrive, allegedly took out a sharp weapon from his bag and attacked her multiple times on her head, hands and other body parts.
A few passersby and locals rushed to the woman's rescue and nabbed her husband. Alerting the police control room, the residents handed him over to the jurisdictional police.
The woman was admitted to a private hospital where she is currently under the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
According to sources, she sustained over 25 cut injuries on her body. The accused was identified as Sheikh Mujeeb, 37, a cab driver, who had married the victim six years ago.
The victim used to work for a private firm in Bengaluru. Sources from the family of the victim said that it was a love marriage.
However, the relationship between the couple turned sour and they were often found quarrelling over petty issues. The victim separated from her husband and started living in a PG for the past few months.
Following the attack, Mujeeb was arrested and interrogated by the police. The police said that Mujeeb suspected his wife was having an affair with her colleague at work.
He had told his wife to quit her job but she wanted to continue and after several arguments, separated from him. An enraged Mujeeb reached Murugeshpalya in the evening and found his wife walking towards her PG.
Approaching her, he allegedly took out the weapon from his bag and began attacking her, the police said.
The JB Nagar Police have registered an FIR under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and launched an investigation.
