Bengaluru: In the face of existing water scarcity challenges, Bangalore University (BU) is set to take the lead in researching the effective utilisation of wastewater.

BU has recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Waste Water Management, based in Illinois, USA, to systematically investigate wastewater management and the application of recycled water in Bengaluru.

Over a year, the research will delve into an analysis of treatment processes, pollutants, re gulatory frameworks, water reuse and recycling, green infrastructure, energy recovery, smart technologies, climate change resilience, public engagement, and problemsolving measures, utilising existing data.

As per reports, Inayathulla M, Director of the Water Institute at the University of Visvesvarya College of Engineering and BU, highlights the urgency of researching water scarcity in Bengaluru.

The initiative aims to reuse existing water resources and establish an alternative tertiary water source, collaborating with Waste Water Management Illinois and involving all stakeholders.

Inayathulla M, an advisor in the technical advisory committee for wastewater management, emphasises the study's focus on 'water balance' and 'decentralised use of wastewater,' promoting innovative solutions and technology exchange.

BU VC Jayakar SM stresses the importance of researching wastewater ement amid declining water.
