Mysuru: Chaos prevailed in Udayagiri after a 45-year-old man was brutally hacked to death by a group of unidentified men for allegedly opposing the installation of a flex board here on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Akmal Pasha, brother of a former Mysuru City Corporator, Ayaz Pasha, also known as Pandu.

The police said that Akmal was attacked by a group of at least six people while he was riding a scooter near Madegowda Circle in Udayagiri Police Station limits.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a member of Mysuru City Corporation, identified as Mohammed Basheer, had recently installed a flex banner to welcome the Chairman of Karnataka Minority Development Corporation (KMDC), BK Altaf.

Opposing this, Akmal met Basheer and asked him to remove the banner claiming it to be illegal and causing disturbance to the public. Sources said that when Basheer ignored his request, Akmal filed a complaint with the Mysuru City Corporation, which enraged Basheer.

A conflict broke out between the two after which Akmal shared a video on social media regarding the issue. The Udayagiri Police told News Trail that six assailants on three bikes approached Akmal near Madegowda Circle and fatally attacked him with sharp weapons on Friday night.

Akmal sustained multiple cut injuries and died on the spot. The police had deployed a tight security in the area on Saturday morning when the matter came to light. It was said that Akmal Pasha was a member and activist of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).

So far the police have identified three accused involved in the murder and efforts are on to arrest them. In a press release, SDPI state unit chief Abdul Majeed demanded the state government for the immediate arrest of the accused involved in the murder of Akmal Pasha.
