Palike defends new property tax proposal, says system clear &simple
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: After opposition on various fronts on the New Property tax system proposed recently, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has taken a defensive stance on the move, claiming that this system aims to ‘simpliify, rationalize and bring a fair property tax system.’
A statement from BBMP claims that residents who live in low guidance properties are put into high tax rate zones and vice versa.
The statement also claims that residents can counter the initially set guidance value, and with supporting documents change the guidance value within three months.
This proposal comes, eight years after its last revision where taxes for residential properties increased by 20% and Nonresidential properties by 25%.
BBMP also stated that the taxes will see only a nominal hike. They claim that an overall of 6.5% will be seen.
This comes after industries, residents and other key stakeholders have made clear their opposition, claiming that this is done to hike taxes in the city.
31st July last time to pay taxes via OTS
As part of the citizen’s property number assignment and Khata Issuance Scheme, the BBMP has opened an online register system, where citizens are willing to register their properties.
Once registered, a temporary property tax number will be generated, through which a One Time Settlement of taxes will be undertaken.
To obtain Khata, those in need can login with their mobile number and authenticate number through Aadhar. Supporting documents like GPS and an image of the property needs to be uploaded.
