HC slaps fine on cop for raping woman on false marriage promise

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a significant ruling, the Karnataka High Court imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on police constable Fakirappa Hatti from Mahadevpur police station, who raped a woman under the guise of marriage.

Additionally, the High Court nullified the bail previously granted to him by a special court due to the concealment of facts.

In response, the High Court instructed the registry to complain to Hatti at the relevant police station for deceiving the court. Justice HP Sandesh reviewed the plea submitted by the 27-year-old victim, urging the cancellation of Hatti's bail.

Subsequently, the court-mandated the police to reconsider the accused's bail status and apprehend him accordingly.

The bench directing the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the concerned jurisdiction to take the respondent in custody and subject him to trial said “It is necessary to curb the conduct of this type of litigent committing fraud on the Court and interfering with the administration of justice and the same has to be curbed with iron hand and also to be dealt with by imposing heavy cost when respondent No.2 gone to the extent of polluting the stream of justice which come in the way of administration of justice,” as reported by LiveLaw.
