Bengaluru: A day after a 34-year-old man came under the wheels of a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) near Kamakshipalya Police Station limits, the BMTC on Friday issued a clarification on the incident.

Chetan, a native of Andhra Pradesh, lost his life after being struck by a BMTC bus on Thursday night.

He was shifted to Victoria Hospital where he succumbed to injuries during the early hours of Friday.

A footage obtained from the camera installed in the bus showed Chetan deliberately jumping in front of the bus while walking on the road.

The BMTC spokesperson said that while the exact cause for his act remains unknown, we had conducted a detailed inquiry to determine if the BMTC driver, Shivakumar, was at fault.

The footage reveals that Chetan had attempted suicide by jumping in front of the bus. The driver could not apply the brakes suddenly considering the safety of the passengers inside.

Meanwhile Chetan sustained severe injuries on his left hand and leg after the rear wheels of the bus ran over him. A case has been registered at the Kamakshipalya Traffic Police Station.
