Bengaluru: As the holy month of Ramadan commenced last week, practicing Muslims across Bengaluru, as a show of kindness have distributed ‘Iftar’ and ‘Sehri’ kits to those underprivileged kids, and working women who do not have access to cooking facilities.
Practicing people go on a fast, from dawn till dusk. The pre-dawn meal is termed ‘Sehri’ and the fast breaking meal is called ‘Iftar.’
Sadiq Rahmathulla, a techie is one of the persons who has taken this initiative forward.
“We have distributed Iftar kits to the underprivileged kids in and around Shivaji Nagar. These kits will last for a month, and have all the necessary food items,” he said.
For Sehri, Rahmathulla, along with his mother and sisters prepare homely dinner items for women who don’t have access to kitchens.
“We distribute around 80-100 kits to these women at Shivaji Chowk at 3.30 am in the morning. We don’t charge any fee for this,” he added.
This is also a part of ‘bangaloresheri.in,’ a website for those who seek Sehri food across the city.We purchase the material from our own pocket,” Rahmathulla said, adding that they’ve done this for the last 5 years.
“The Pandemic has not stopped us from serving people with good food,” Rahmathulla signed off.
Acts like these in the month of Ramadan shows the compassion of people who believe in harmony and serving others, irrespective of their communities.
Pictures of children having food with a smile on their faces are being circulated on social media, and are welcomed warmly.
