Alleging harassment by husband, woman strangles toddler, attempts suicide

Bengaluru: A 24-year-old woman killed her two-yearold daughter and also attempted suicide at her residence in KR Puram here.

It is alleged that she had entered into a troubled marriage which led to frequent fights with her husband.

The police said that the couple hailed from Andhra Pradesh and the incident had taken place on March 17. The husband, Lakshminarayan, 31, is said to be a software engineer.

The incident took place around 10 am when he had stepped out of the house. The victim, Chinna, took a pillow and suffocated her two-year-old daughter to death.

Later she locked all the doors of the house and tried to slit her wrist and attempted to self-immolate.

Chinna, however survived with the timely intervention of the neighbours who noticed the fire through a window.

The woman is now undergoing treatment at a city hospital. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Whitefield Division, the couple moved to Bengaluru from Andhra Pradesh three months ago, adding that while Chinna is a homemaker, Lakshminarayan works at a private software company.

KR Puram police are investigating the matter.
