Mangaluru: In a new twist to the alleged police assault on the Koragajja community at Kota in Kundapur in Udupi district, a counter complaint has been filed at Kota police station by a police constable who was part of the team that went to the house of a Koragajja community person and allegedly assaulted them.
Jayaram Naik, a police constable had tried to prevent the Koragajjas from playing loud music during the pre-wedding ceremony of the tribal Koraga community in Kota Thattu and has filed the counter complaint against Koraga community members alleging that they created a nuisance in a public place in an inebriated state. The complaint also says that community members like Ganesh Barkur, Rajesh, Sudarshan, Sachin and others assaulted the police with logs.
According to the complaint, the cops tried to switch off the loud music but were attacked by people at the function.
This and an earlier complaint filed by the Koragajja community, have been registered at Kota police station.
It may be noted that Kota PSI Santhosh has been suspended already for allegedly assaulting Koraga tribals. Other police staffers including Jayaram Naik, who was accused of assaulting the Koragas, have been already transferred to different police stations in the district.
