In an exclusive interview with News Trail, Vice Chancellor - Prof. Lingaraja Gandhi shared BCU's strategies and initiatives in fostering industry collaborations, promoting mental well-being, championing inclusivity, updating the curriculum with the latest advancements, and integrating sustainability principles.

At Bengaluru City University, we envision becoming a premier institution renowned for academic rigour, fostering well-rounded graduates prepared to thrive in the globalised world.

We aim to achieve this through a blend of strong theoretical foundations, industry exposure, and holistic student development initiatives.

Q: How are plans being made to increase collaboration with industries to better prepare graduates for the job market?

We are actively forging partnerships with industry leaders to develop industry-aligned curriculum, guest lectures, internship programs, and mentorship opportunities.

This will ensure our graduates possess the skills and experience most sought after by employers.

We will prioritise research in areas like artificial intelligence, biotechnology, renewable energy, and social sciences to address contemporary challenges and contribute meaningfully to society. 

Q: How will the university address the growing concern of student mental health and provide improved support mechanisms?

We are expanding our counselling services, establishing peer support networks, and organising workshops to equip students with coping mechanisms and foster a supportive environment.

We are strengthening our career services by providing resume-writing workshops, mock interviews, and industry exposure events.

We are also integrating career counselling throughout the academic journey to guide students towards their chosen career paths.

Q: What initiatives are in place to create a more inclusive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds?

We are committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment. This includes providing scholarships and support systems for underprivileged students, organising cultural events to celebrate diversity, and offering sensitivity training for faculty and staff.

Q: How does the university ensure its curriculum stays updated with the latest advancements in various fields?

Our faculty constantly reviews the curriculum to integrate the latest advancements.

We encourage faculty participation in conferences and workshops and actively seek industry feedback to ensure our programs are current and relevant.

We are incorporating courses on critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork into our curriculum.

Q: What strategies are implemented to promote student participation in co-curricular activities and clubs?

We provide dedicated spaces and resources for student organisations and encourage faculty to mentor these groups. This fosters well-rounded development and a vibrant campus life.

During our tenure, we aspire to establish Bengaluru City University as a national leader in innovative and industry-relevant education, while fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.

Q: Does the university offer any programs or support for students with entrepreneurial aspirations?

We recognise the importance of nurturing entrepreneurial spirit. We offer incubation centres, mentorship programs, and workshops on business planning and fund-raising to support students with entrepreneurial aspirations.

Q: How is the university integrating sustainability principles into its operations and curriculum?

We are integrating sustainability principles into all aspects of university life. This includes adopting eco-friendly practices in infrastructure, operations, and waste management.
