Judging performance: ZPs & CEOs to be given rankings, says CM

Bengaluru: District-wise rankings would be given to Zilla Panchayats and their Chief Executive Officers(CEOs) in the coming days based on their performance, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Addressing the ZP CEOs’ conference at Vidhana Soudha, Bommai said a commendable performance by Zilla Panchayats is imperative for a government to become pro-people in the true sense. ‘’Make an impression through exemplary performance in your district,’’ he stressed.

"The implementation of government programmes and projects at the grassroots is very important. You have been vested with more powers after decentralisation. Use your discretion with care for the welfare of the people. The government will fully back the decisions taken in the interest of the poor,’’ Bommai said. He also spoke out against red-tape and said officials should have clarity in their decision making. Uncertainty is like a plague and delaying tactics could cost the public dear, he warned.

He wanted the officials to introspect on their functioning and correct shortcomings if any. The CM also instructed the CEOs to strictly monitor the progress of centrally sponsored projects like Jalajeevan Mission and Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(MGNREGS).

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister KS Eshwarappa in his address appreciated the achievements made in the construction of toilets in rural areas and appealed to people to make good use of them.
