Mob targets miscreant Desai

Mangaluru: An enraged mob pelted stones at the house of Devadas Desai, who was arrested by the police for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus by dropping used condoms inside religious places.

These incidents had become a big headache for the police department and have been happening for the past six months. Finally, the accused, Devadas Desai was arrested on Wednesday and confessed to putting condoms inside the offering boxes of religious centres like Koragajja shrine and Kordabbu shrine among others. He confessed that he had put condoms inside the offering boxes of around 18 religious centres adding that he also used to drop pamphlets highlighting Christianity and Lord Christ.

After Devadas was arrested, activists of Hindu organisations gathered in front of his house and pelted stones.

Devadas is from Hubballi and was married but his wife and daughter have deserted him. He was converted to Christianity and is now a devout follower of the Christian faith. As he wanted to make people convert to Christianity, he was allegedly trying to tarnish Hindu religious centres, the cops added. Devadas used to drive an autorickshaw in Mangaluru and later bought a house on KC Road in 2006 where he lives alone.
