Bengaluru: A rowdy sheeter was brutally hacked to death in a suspected rival gang attack at a service apartment in Banaswadi Police Station limits on Wednesday.

The incident took place around 3 pm. The deceased, identified as Dinesh, 31, a notorious history sheeter, was involved in several criminal cases in Bengaluru.

According to sources, Dinesh was involved in a tussle with his rival gang members, led by another notorious hooligan, Dileep, for several months in order to keep the area under his charge.

A few weeks ago, after a brutal fight between the gang members, the police had intervened and warned them of strict action if they were found involved in such fights again.

Dileep along with a few gang members had been plotting to eliminate Dinesh for good.

The attack took place when Dinesh was at a service apartment near Kammanahalli along with a few of his accomplices.

The group was talking to the receptionist in order to book a room for a day when around seven armed assailants barged into the apartment and hacked Dinesh to death with machetes and daggers.

According to the police, Dinesh was seated on a sofa while his friends were booking a room. The receptionist had told them that they accept only cash or card for booking.

The attack took place when Dinesh's friends had stepped out of the service apartment to withdraw cash from an ATM nearby. The police said that an effort is on to identify and arrest the absconding accused.
