Bengaluru: In an early morning operation, Forest Department officials arrested three people for killing a deer and sharing its meat near the popular tourist spot of Mutyalmadu in Anekal taluk.

However, three others managed to escape. A group of six people hunted a deer around 3 am on private land.

They shared the meat, and three of them were heading out on two-wheelers when Forest Department officials, acting on specific information, intercepted them and arrested them with the venison.

The officials then brought the arrested individuals to the spot where they had hunted the deer, while the other three, who were in a car, fled the scene.

Those arrested were identified as Devaraju, 40, of Maralavadi in Harohalli taluk; Ramakrishna, 40, from Aadoor in Anekal taluk; and Kishore, 23, from Indlawadi in Anekal taluk.

Forest officials found a single-barrel gun, a machete, and venison in the car.

They seized the car, three two-wheelers, and the meat. Anekal Range Forest Officer M. Raghu said they had received information about hunters in the Tamil Nadu border area, following which the elephant response team launched an operation.
