Huge quantity of gelatin sticks, detonators seized in Kolar

Bengaluru: The police on Monday seized a huge cache of explosives being transported into the cty from a neighbouring state.
During random vehicle checks at a Kar nataka-Andhra Pradesh border checkpost in Mulbagal Taluk, the police officers discovered a car laden with a huge quantity of gelatin sticks.
According to sources, around 1,200 gelatin sticks, seven boxes of detonator wire and six detonators were seized from the car.
Kolar Superintendent of Police M Narayana said that the investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the explosives and whether the explosives were transported for illegal quarrying.
It is suspected that the explosives were being illegally transported from Andhra Pradesh to Karnataka. That police said that one person, identified as Asif Hazrath Ali, has been arrested in connection with the seizure, while a second suspect managed to escape.
In the last month, the Bellandur police in Bengaluru claimed to have seized gelatin sticks along with a detonator from a parked tractor near a school.
An FIR had been registered against the owner of the tractor under the Explosives Act and Section 286 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance) of the Indian Penal Code.
