‘Recent elections prove there is Cong wave in state’

Mysuru: Asserting that the state is witnessing a Congress wave, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committe(KPCC) executive president Mr R Druvanarayan said the party is sure of riding back to power in the next assembly elections. Recent elections have indicated that the JD(S) too is losing base in constituencies where they were once strong with the party’s leaders making their way to the Congress, he said.
Euphoric after the urban local body poll victory, the Congress will host a mega convention in former CM Siddaramaiah’s home town Mysuru, on January 3, much before the padayatra for implementation of the Mekedatu project which will begin on January 9. A Congress membership enrollment drive too will be held during the convention.
“We have won a good number of seats even in places where the BJP has a strong base. People are tired of the anti people attitude of the saffron party, their constant bickering, price rise and problems they faced during the Covid pandemic. They have started tilting towards the Congress.”
On the criticism of the padayatra by BJP and JD(S) leaders, Mr Druvanarayan said, “There is nothing new about such padayatras as Siddaramaiah led a padayatra to Ballari against illegal mining corruption earlier. Our padayatra is for water and to address people’s problems. Mr Pratap Simha(BJP MP) had himself taken out a padayatra related to Hanuma Jayanthi and still criticises our padayatra. The JD (S) leaders are a frustrated lost as the recent elections have proved they have lost base in old Mysuru. They could secure only second preferential votes in Mysuru-Chamarajnagar constituency in the recent legislative council elections. They have also lost their base in Mandya, Tumakuru and Bengaluru rural districts,” he said.
On the proposed privatisation of Hindu temples, he said, “Hindu temples should remain within the purview of the Muzrai department. This is also a hidden agenda of the BJP to hand over temples to the RSS,” he alleged.
