CBI arrests NHAI official, 4 others

Bengaluru: In a major development on Friday CBI arrested Regional Officer, NHAI, Bengaluru and other four private people, including the General Manager and Executive Director of a private company, for an alleged bribery amounting to Rs 20 Lakh.

The reports confirm that searches are being conducted on the premises of the accused at New Delhi, Bengaluru, Kochi, Gurugram, Bhopal etc, which has so far led to the recovery of around Rs 4 crore.

The names of the accused have been identified as Akil Ahmad, Regional Officer, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Bengaluru, Retnakaran Sajilal, General Manager; Devendra Jain, Executive Director and Sunil Kumar Verma (an official), all of M/s Dilip Buildcon Private Limited, and Anuj Gupta a private person.

It is claimed that the agency is also contemplating roping in the Income Tax department in the case, the officials said, adding that all the arrested will be produced before court.
