Rowdy evades arrest, shot in the leg

Bengaluru: A 24-year-old rowdy sheeter, who had earlier evaded arrest by attacking a police sub-inspector, has been arrested again. A team of policemen arrested him after firing at his leg. The accused has been identified as Diwakar Urs, wanted in over eight cases. He is a rowdy sheeter in Girinagar police station, and there are cases against him in Hanumanthanagar and other police stations.
On Wednesday night at around 11 pm, the accused had stabbed sub-inspector Vinod Rathod near the Boopasandra-Hebbal flyover. A few hours later the police came to know he was near the HMT factory.
They rushed to the spot and surrounded him. The accused again tried to attack a police constable and a senior officer shot at his leg.
Urs had recently robbed a woman and her daughter-in-law at gunpoint. The accused had entered the house under the guise of a health official in-charge of a vaccination drive.
‘Escape’ Karthik arrested
A notorious thief, identified as Karthik Kumar alias ‘Escape- Karthik’, was arrested by the Kamakshipalya police and Rs 11.43 lakh worth valuables have been seized. The accused has committed thefts at residences in Basaweshwaranagar, KP Agrahara, Kamakshipalya and other areas. He is involved in around 85 house theft cases.
He had also committed theft in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Mysuru.
