EC turns blind eye to PM’s inflammatory speech so far
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The Election Commission (EC) on Monday refused to take notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments in an election rally in Banswara, Rajasthan, claiming that Congress wanted to snatch resources from people and redistribute it to Muslims, even as more than 2,200 citizens called on the body to take action against the head of government.
“The Election Commission’s failure to take any action against such hate speech will only undermine its credibility and autonomy that has been safeguarded and upheld by a series of exemplary officers before you,” the petition submitted by the citizens said.
Modi followed up the speech with similar comments in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday, but this time refrained from mentioning Muslims.
