Chitradurga: Muruga mutt seer Shivamurthy Sharanaru was once again remanded to judicial custody on Monday in the case of the alleged sexual abuse of two minor girls.
He was taken to the Chitradurga Central jail amid heavy police presence.
The Lingayat seer’s arrest was down to the Supreme Court (SC) last week, staying the bail given to him.
He had been given the bail on the conditions that he would not tamper with the evidence, stay away from Chitradurga district and execute bonds worth Rs 2 lakh.
However, the apex court canceled his bail, asking that he be kept in judicial custody until the statements of the witnesses are recorded.
The court has also demanded that the trial be concluded in four months. On August 26, 2022, two minor girls registered a complaint in a Mysuru police station claiming that the seer had sexually abused them when they stayed in his hostel.
Shivamurthy was arrested on September 1, 2022 and had spent 14 months in jail before being granted bail in November 2023. The bail had been challenged in a petition.
