Bengaluru: A PhD student was found dead in one of the hostel rooms of the Bangalore University, Jnanabharathi campus in the city.

The deceased student was identified as 27-year-old Ranganath Naik, who hailed from Chikkaballapur.

According to sources, Naik had been suffering from various health issues after being injured in an accident a few months ago.

The matter came to light on Wednesday afternoon as one of his colleagues found the room door locked from inside.

When he failed to get any response, he alerted the authorities and the door was forced open only to find Naik hanging from the ceiling.

The colleagues said that Naik was last seen in the morning when he had come to the canteen for breakfast.

Following inspection, the Jnanabharati Police suspected it to be a case of suicide but the exact reason for the student's extreme step could not be determined so far.

A case has been registered and the probe is still on.
