Bengaluru: Additional City Civil and Sessions in Bengaluru has issued an ex-parte interim order restraining some 89 news media outlets from publishing “false news” against JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda and party state president HD Kumaraswamy and the use of their images in relation to the sexual assault case against JD(S) MP from Hassan Prajwal Revanna.

Prajwal’s father and party MLA from Holenarasipura HD Revanna has already been remanded to custody till Wednesday in a similar case.

The Hassan MP on the other hand has been accused of assaulting scores of women.

Prajwal is the grandson and HD Revanna is the son Deve Gowda. Kumaraswamy is a paternal uncle to Prajwal and sibling to HD Revanna.

However, the court held that tying Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy to crimes that their relatives committed, using images that are edited was unfair.

“At this stage, based upon the material placed, the court holds that, only to some extent, the plaintiffs have made out prima facie case.

If, without any substantive and truthful material, the articles are published depicting the plaintiff unnecessarily either by showing the photographs, videographs, by way of marping, except with regard to their statements given to the medias, the reputation in the public at large may be tarnished.” Judge HA Mohan said.
