Bengaluru: A city-based woman allegedly lost her savings to a fraudster, who posing as a police officer from Uttar Pradesh, duped her of Rs 16.3 lakh.

The 59-year-old victim registered a complaint with the Cybercrime police after she found that Rs 16.3 lakh had been withdrawn from her bank accounts.

In her complaint she alleged that she received a WhatsApp call from a person who claimed to be a police officer from UP and informed her that a SIM card linked to her Aadhaar Card was involved in illegal activities.

Further the fraudster asked her to share her bank details for investigation.

Unfortunately, the woman fell for the trick following which the fraudster withdrew all the money she had in her bank account. Realising the fraud, the woman approached the police.

A probe has been launched to identify and nab the accused involved in the case.

"No one, including the police, have been authorized to demand and access the personal information over the phone," the police said.
