Woman stabbed by husband in daylight

Bengaluru: While women's safety concerns looms large in the state, a 28-year-old woman was brutally stabbed to death in broad daylight by her husband in the city.

The incident took place in Koramangala Police Station limits around 3:30 pm on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Michael Francis, is currently on the run after killing his estranged wife, the police said.

The deceased woman was identified as Indu, a resident of Srinivagilu in Bengaluru. So far it has been revealed that the accused, Francis and his wife had been living separately following a domestic row.

Francis had been working as a painter while his wife lived with her mother in Venkatapura in Bengaluru for the past six months.

The couple were married for 12 years and had two children. The jurisdictional police said that the victim had approached them a few days ago requesting them to warn her husband.

She had alleged that her husband was an alcoholic and often used to pick fights despite her staying away from him.

However Francis did not respond to the call made by police. Indu had been staying with her mother in Venkatapura here.

On Thursday morning, she had again visited the police seeking help after which the police asked him to come to the station.

Around 3:30 pm on Thursday, when Indu had stepped out of her mother's house, the accused blocked her way and began arguing with her. Scared, Indu dialled her mother which further enraged Francis.

He pulled out a knife and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing the scene. Indu's mother who heard her screams over the phone, alerted the Hoysala which rushed to the spot.

However Francis had escaped by then. Indu was immediately taken to St John's hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead.
