New Delhi: Averbal sparring match erupted between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi concer ning industrialists Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani.

While the PM took a dig at Rahul, questioning his 'sudden silence' on Adani and Ambani, Gandhi In retaliation, challenged Modi to deploy investigative agencies such as the CBI and ED to scrutinise the issue.

"Have tempo loads of notes (currency) reached the Congress? What deal has been arrived at, that abusing Ambani-Adani has stopped overnight," Modi wondered while addressing an election rally at Vemulawada in Telangana.

In a few hours, in a video, Gandhi dared Modi to hold a probe by the CBI or ED into whether businessmen Adani and Ambani sent black money to his party and taunted if Modi was speaking from his "personal experience" that they send their "money in a tempo".

He also asked Modi if he was "scared". Normally you talk about Adani and Ambani behind closed doors, but for the first time you have talked about Adani and Ambani in public," Gandhi said.

"You also know that they give money in a tempo. Is it your personal experience?" Gandhi said while taking a swipe at PM Modi.

"Do one thing - send the CBI, ED to them and carry out a thorough investigation and don't be scared," he said.

"The country knows who is the driver and helper of the BJP's tempo of corruption," Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X.

He said the money that PM Modi has "given" to the two businessmen, will be given to the people of India through the various schemes that the Congress party has promised. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that “times are changing”.

“Friends are no longer friends! After completion of three phases of elections, today the Prime Minister has started attacking his own friends. This shows that Modi-ji's chair is shaking. This is the real trend of the result.”

In the past, Rahul Gandhi attacked Modi over policies that he claimed are meant to specifically benefit top industrialists -- Adanis and Ambanis.

Countering PM Modi's charges, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “The PM calls my brother ‘Shehzada’ (prince) but he is ‘Shehenshah’ (emperor)...He is giving clarifications because people are seeing that the entire country’s property has been given to some billionaires…”
