Reforestation drive on to offset Metro expansion impact

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is embarking on a reforestation endeavour to offset the tree loss incurred during Phase 2 of the Namma Metro expansion.

With an allocated budget of Rs 76.9 crore, the initiative aims to plant 15,000 saplings. The reforestation project will unfold in stages, commencing with the planting of 5,000 saplings in Dabus Town, near the 4th Industrial Area and adjacent gover nment properties.

Each phase of the project will receive a budget of Rs 2.03 crore. The BMRCL specified that the newly planted saplings will be distributed across the 2nd, 12th, and 13th garden and buffer zones of Doddaballapur's 3rd phase KIADB lands, as well as other nearby government areas.

This initiative aligns with the corporation's strategy to augment green cover alongside infrastructural advancement.
