Student orgs hope SEP will prove to be panacea

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Student organisations welcomed the abolition of the four-year underg raduate de g ree course in Karnataka with an eye on the State Education Policy (SEP) hoping that it’ll solve many of the problems facing higher education in the state.

All India Education Save Committee (AISEC) Karnataka president Professor Allamaprabhu Bettadur said that while he welcomed the doing away of the four year degree, affordable and universal higher education remained their top demand.

“AISEC urges that the forthcoming state education policy should ensure universal education and develop public educational institutions committed to the scientific, secular and democratic values aspired by India's renaissance thinkers and freedom fighters,” Bettadur said.

The four-year degree was a part of the structural introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) in 2020 by the Union government.

Meanwhile, All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) held “victory meetings” over the abolition of the fouryear undergraduate degree course.
