Bengaluru police continue 'war on drugs'

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In separate cases, the anti-narcotics wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested eight people including three foreign nationals for allegedly peddling drugs and seized narcotics worth Rs 2.74 crore from their possession.

The three foreign nationals were arrested from Sampigehalli Police Station limits. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, on Tuesday said that the accused used to obtain drugs and narcotics from abroad to sell them in Bengaluru at higher prices.

Based on a tip off, the CCB raided their residences and arrested them seizing MDMA crystals and Cocaine worth Rs 50 lakh during the raid.

City top cop Dayananda further said that the foreign nationals had arrived in the city using business and medical visas. The accused were also sending drug consignments to other states including Goa, Mumbai and Delhi.

They were booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Foreigners Act. Similar operation was conducted in VV Puram Police Station limits, where CCB sleuths arrested one person and seized drugs including ganja, LSD strips and charas worth Rs 10 lakh.

A case was registered against the accused at the jurisdictional police station. An auto-rickshaw driver was arrested from Cottonpet Police Station limits following which the CCB confiscated seven kilograms of ganja worth Rs 14 lakh from him.

He used to sell the banned narcotic items to students and techies in the city. The CCB arrested another person from Kothanur and seized drugs worth Rs 2 crore from his possession.

The Police Commissioner said that the accused was being supplied with drug consignments from one of his friends in Andhra Pradesh.

The accused had stored huge quantities of drugs at a place in Kothanur, the police said. Further investigation is underway in these cases.
