Debt-ridden woman held for land-lady's murder

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A debt-ridden woman allegedly strangled her landlady to death and fled with her jewellery from her house in Kengeri Police Station limits. Following a probe, the police arrested her.

The deceased was identified as Divya while the accused is Monika, 24. The police said that the incident took place on May 10 at Divya's house in Konasandra. Monika, originally from Kolar district, was working as a data entry operator for a private company for the past year and had been living in a rented house owned by Divya's husband, Gurumurthy, in Kengeri for the past three months.

The accused had introduced her boyfriend as her husband. Monika was living alone while her boyfriend would visit her frequently. Sources said the accused had taken a few loans for her expenses and had to help her boyfriend who was in need of money to buy a mini truck.

Monika had seen the jewellery of her house owner, Divya. She also knew that Divya's husband and in-laws would leave for work in the morning and plotted to kill her and rob her of her jewellery.

On May 10, when Divya was with her two-year-old baby, the accused stealthily approached Divya from behind and allegedly strangled her to death. She snatched a 36 gram gold chain from Divya and fled the spot, police source said.
