BBMP mulls to close dried borewells despite showers
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Despite Bengaluru getting much needed pre-monsoon showers in the last few days, Tushar Giri Nath, Chief Commissioner of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has hinted that the dried bore wells will be closed by the end of the month.
“We will inspect such bore wells and try to resur rect them. The ones not giving water will be closed, while the ones giving meagre amounts will be resurrected with casing pipes,” Girinath told reporters on Saturday.
The city has been under a water crisis for a few months. A lot of areas are suffering from water shortage. However, recent showers have given temporary relief to a few areas.
When the crisis peaked, Girinath reportedly said that the Palike will drill bore wells at Rs. 131 crore. “This also includes the maintenance, which comes at Rs. 10 lakh,” Girinath said.
Girinath also assured citizens that the Palike are on the ground preparing for the showers.
“An intensive plastic drive, along with cleaning side drains of Rajakaluves is on. We have asked residents to flag dangerous trees to be pruned,” he concluded.
