B’luru rains: 15 trees uprooted, major roads waterlogged

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: During the rain on Sunday, records from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) said that 15 trees, in addition to 49 branches had fallen across various places in the city.

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, as of 9:45 pm, Bengaluru Urban received 70mm of rainfall on Sunday. Waterlogging was reported from prominent roads following which the workers were assigned to clear the blockages.

The East Zone had received a complaint of a tree falling, which was went unattended until late into the night. The BBMP control room received two more complaints of waterlogging, due to a drain blocked at Kasthuri Nagar at the CV Raman Nagar sub-division.

Another one was received from Neelasandra. Dasarahalli saw three areas waterlogged which affected the traffic movement. The officials said that one near Shettihalli was caused due to a Sewerage pipe bursting out.

Another one, at BTS Layout saw roads waterlogged because of the Rajakaluve being blocked by silt. The control room official added that the water logging was reported near several houses in the area. Ward 14 Bagalakunte saw a branch falling on the road.

However, no damages were reported. In the South zone, a tree in ward 142 Sunkenahalli had been uprooted, which the officials immediately attended to.

The Mahadevapura Zone received only one complaint of tree falling, which the forest department cleared. Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bommanahalli and West zones of the BBMP received no complaints, supposedly due to meagre rainfall.

The Yelahanka Zonal control room received a complaint of a damaged streetlight. The Bengaluru Traffic Police reported waterlogging at the Goraguntepalya flyover. Cops in an attempt to unclog, found plastic wastes being dumped on the side of the drains leading to a blockage.

Waterlogging was also reported at Marathahalli, Panathur Rail Under Bridge (RUB), Hebbal flyover up and down ramp, Veeranapalya, MMT Junction (K R Puram), M S Palya towards Yelahanka, Kamadhenu Nagar, near Palace cross, Manyata flyover, Ramamurthy Nagar - Tin Factory, Sanjayanagara Cross, Hunasamaranahalli Service Road, BEL to Hebbal, Anil Kumble Junction and BRV Junction.

Traffic police also reported a branch falling at Subramanya Circle near Makkala Koota park.
