Bengaluru: After receiving complaints that residents were unable to identify the latitude and longitude (lat-long) coordinates while paying property tax, the revenue department of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had removed the option completely from its portal, sources told News Trail on Tuesday.
At the start of the new financial year, the BBMP had introduced a draft of the new guidance value system added lat-long coordinates to ease the identification of any city property. Officials in the revenue department admitted that citizens had a difficult time adding such geographical details prompting the Palike to make it ‘optional.’
“Only around a thousand property owners had entered the coordinates. We understand that it's the government which needs to identify the coordinates,” a senior official stated. The senior also asserted that the easthi system was introduced to ease verification of property documents.
“It contains all necessary details. However, it needs more work before it is introduced,” they added.
