Kolkata teen who moved to B’luru, pushed into sex trade

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a heart-rending incident, a 15 to 16-year-old minor girl from Kolkata who travelled to Bengaluru in search of employment, was allegedly pushed into prostitution and has been rescued by the police.

It happend after the girl, moved by the plight of her unwell mother in Kolkata, sought the assistance of an acquaintance in Bengaluru to alleviate their hardship.

The girl was looking for domestic work and was taken to the residence of one Muneer in Mahadeshwara Nagar in Byadarahalli police station limits. To her shock, she found herself being pushed into prostitution on arrival.

The girl's repeated pleas to be assigned housekeeping work were dismissed and she was reportedly told that no one would hire her. On receiving a tip-off, the police conducted a raid on Muneer's residence and rescued the girl.

Muneer, Shampa Begum, who was allegedly involved in trafficking, and Rupa, a local resident, were apprehended.

A case has been filed at Byadarahalli police station. Muneer and Shampa Begum are suspected to be of Bangladeshi origin, although they possess Aadhaar cards listing a Kolkata address, which is currently under investigation.
