3-day mango mela begins in Mysuru

Mysuru, NT Bureau: The three day mango and jackfruit mela organized jointly by Department of Horticulture and the Zilla Panchayat to provide direct marketing facilities to growers besides showcase their varieties of mangoes, began at Kuppanna Park near Hardinge Circle in the city.

It will continue till May 26.Farmers of Mysuru, Mandya and Chamarajnagar districts besides Bengaluru Rural and Ramnagar have displayed their varieties for sale at 36 stalls set up by the department.

Mango varieties like Badami, Thothapuri, Raspuri, Dasheri, Sakkare gutthi, MH 425, Mallika and Malgova have been displayed. The first day of the mela received a huge response from the public who arrived with cloth bags along with their family members to buy the fruits at subsidized prices.

The prices of mangoes will be revised everyday depending upon the market rate. Farmers sold a kilogram of Alphonso or Badami at Rs 125 on the first day, followed by Raspuri (Rs 100), Mallika ( Rs 130), Sindhura (Rs 70), Thotapuri (Rs 40), Malgova Rs (170), Banganpalli (Rs 70), Himapasand (Rs 240), Valaja (Rs 70), Kesar (Rs 130), Dasheri (Rs 130) and Sakkareguthi (Rs 160).
