BBMP constitutes zone wise task force, May 31 deadline to fill potholes
Bengaluru: After Chief Minister Siddaramiah’s call to form a task force on filling potholes before monsoon, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Monday constituted zone wise task forces, to be headed by the Zonal Commissioners.
“The deadline for filling potholes except in Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Dasarahalli zones will be Friday, May 31. June 4 will be the deadline for the aforementioned zones,” said Tushar Girinath, Chief Commissioner of the civic agency.
The Joint Commissioner of the zone, chief engineers, Assistant commissioner of traffic police, Zonal executive engineers for road infrastructure and other concerned departments under the zone, and assistant deputy controller (finance) under the zonal commissioner, will constitute the task force.
Powers to sanction funds and tenders are also given to the task force. According to Girinath, 5500 potholes have been identified across the city , in which 67 have been identified as bad patches.
“We have filled around 1200 of them so far,” he added. Bengaluru has 12,878 kilometres of roads, out of which 1344.84 are considered arterial and sub-arterial roads.
The remaining 11533.16 kilometres comes under the respective zone’s jurisdiction. Huge craters of potholes in addition to waterlogging has become a common sight as motorists and commuters have expressed disappointment at the lack of proactiveness from the Palike.
