Won’t spare Channagiri police station attackers, says DKS
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators of the attack on a police station in Channagiri town of Davangere district.
He made the comments at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office in Bengaluru on Monday. “The Chief Minister has ordered an inquiry into the attack on the police station in Channagiri. The investigation is underway and the culprits will be brought to book at any cost. The Congress party treats people of all communities equally but no one can take law into their hands. The government is committed to punish the culprits,” Shivakumar said.
Adil (33) on Friday was brought into police custody where he allegedly died. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where his death was confirmed. Adil’s family was enraged to find out about his death and attacked some 11 cops present at the station.
The kin of the deceased said that Adil was a carpenter but also organised illegal “matka” gambling rings. They alleged that policemen were angry at Adil for not paying them their cut on one occasion and beat him to death.
As many as 25 people have been arrested for the attack. Policemen insist that Adil had low blood pressure and collapsed of a seizure and subsequently died in the hospital, a series of events the family of the deceased denies. They said that Adil had no pre-existing illnesses that would cause him to die.
