
Another cop arrested in Bitcoin scam
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Bitcoin scam case, in a latest development, arrested a Police Inspector who was one of the investigating officers of the scam previously.
Chandradhar, Police Inspector attached to Cyber Crime Wing was questioned by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) SIT officials in connection with his role in the scam. Following the inquiry, the officials arrested the officer, sources said on Wednesday.
The investigation so far hinted that more than 60.6 Bitcoins were stolen by unknown people in a hacking that occured on June 23, 2017.
Each Bitcoin was valued at Rs 1.67 lakh at that time. Following a probe, an alleged hacker Srikrishna Ramesh alias Sriki was arrested by the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) in November 2020.
After the scam broke out in 2017, several allegations were made accusing state politicians and top police officials of being involved in the scam.
