Cyberfrauds impersonate former ADGP, dupe friend of Rs 3 lakh
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Former Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Bhaskar Rao has filed a complaint with the city cybercrime police after an unidentified person created a fake Facebook account under his name and allegedly duped his friend of Rs 3 lakh.
According to the complaint, a fake account in Bhaskar Rao's name was created and friend requests were sent to his actual friends.
The impersonator then sent messages to Rao's friends stating that he is planning to sell a sofa set in his house and received money totalling Rs 3 lakh through different online payment modes.
One of the accused persons even tried to call some of Rao’s friends to inform them about the offer stating that he was asked by the latter to call them.
The fraud came to light when one of Rao's friends, suspecting something fishy, called him to confirm, following which he approached the police and filed a complaint.
The police are now trying to track down the accused from details of the online money transactions.
