Rape-accused Prajwal in police custody till Jun 6
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The long arm of the law has finally caught up with Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of rape and sexual harassment.
A day after he arrived in Bengaluru from Munich in Germany, the JD(S) MP, who was arrested soon after arrival in the wee hours of Monday, was remanded to police custody till June 6.
Prajwal, grandson of former PM HD Deve Gowda, faces allegations of sexually abusing several women and was arrested by an all-women police team who escorted him to the CID headquarters in Bengaluru.
Three women officers escorted the MP from Bengaluru airport as he returned from German, amid massive public outrage and a huge political controversy.
The details of Prajwal's arrest were posted on X, formerly twitter, by former top cop-turned politician Bhaskar Rao.
Prajwal was produced before the court after the medical examination at the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital later in the day. The 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate K N Shivakumar heard the remand application and objections raised by Prajwal's advocate and remanded him to police custody.
Special Public Prosecutor Ashok Naik argued on behalf of the SIT investigating the case and sought 14 days police custody.
Prajwal's advocate Arun G said there were no rape charges in the initial FIR against his client until May 5 and police custody is not needed. Judge Shivakumar after an hour's break, remanded Prajwal to police custody.
