6 Council seat voters cast ballot, record nearly 80% turn-out
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The election to six Council seats on Monday elicited a collective voter turnout of 79.91 per cent.
The Karnataka North-East Graduates, South-West Graduates, South-East Teachers, South-West Teachers, South Teachers and Bangalore Graduates seats cast their ballot on the day. The South-East Teachers seat witnessed a voter turnout of 95.27 per cent, the highest of the six constituencies.
The South Teachers seat clocked 88.07 per cent. The South-West Teachers segment saw an 82.56 per cent turn-out. The SouthWest Graduates witnessed 78.19 per cent of the voters casting their ballot.
The North-East Graduates saw a lower voter turn-out of 69.51 per cent. Meanwhile Bangalore Graduates finished last at 65.86 per cent. It is to be noted that these numbers and exact number of votes may be revised as is the general practice.
The BJP and JD(S) combine continued their alliance for the Council polls. BJP contested on four of them while partners JD(S) fielded candidates on two of them (South West Teachers and South Teachers). Congress on the other hand contested alone on all six seats.
Moreover, the total number of registered voters in all six seats stood at 4,33,833. The North-East Graduates seat had 1,56,623 registered voters. The Bangalore Graduates constituency had 1,21,860 electors. The South-West Graduates seat was home to 85,090 voters.
The South-East Teachers seat had 25,309 electors. The South-West Teachers seat had 23,402 voters. The South Teachers constituency had 21,549 electors.
